Torah Study Tools

A guide to strengthen you, to see The Messiah more clearly,
and to teach others.

Angela Kunkel
Angela Renee Kunkel

If your desire is to view the Scriptures through Hebrew eyes, to possess the worldview that Yeshua and the Apostles had when they studied the Scriptures, then here are some fundamental tools with which you will find valuable.

The “PaRDeS” is an acronym for the four levels of Biblical interpretation; layers of an onion—all simultaneously true—each layer is deeper and more intense than the last. A working knowledge of PaRDeS is essential in order to fully grasp a thorough Hebraic understanding of the scriptures. The four levels explained:

• Pashat — The first level of understanding is Pashat. The Pashat is the plain, simple, literal meaning
of the text. This should never be disregarded.

• Remez — meaning “hint”. This is the implied meaning of the text. Peculiarities in the text are regarded as hinting at deeper truth than that contained in the Pashat. Often this hinting back refers to a prior example where the same word or concept has been previously taught in the text. Hinting back to a prior understanding reinforces the intended meaning in the now and present of the speaker.
